India's economic growth slowed in the final quarter of 2016, but the pace of expansion still beat expectations.

The economy grew by 7% in three months to December compared with the same period a year earlier.

That was slower than the rate of 7.4% recorded in the previous quarter, but beat analysts' expectations of 6.4%.

Economists had expected the economy to suffer from the government's decision to withdraw high-denomination banknotes as part of an anti-corruption drive.
