Ildar Dadin: Russian activist jail term quashed

Russia's Supreme Court has overturned the jail sentence imposed on peaceful opposition activist Ildar Dadin.

Mr Dadin was jailed in December 2015, and became the first person to be convicted under Russia's new tough law on demonstrations.

He has complained of being tortured in prison.

The Supreme Court ordered the release of Mr Dadin and called for his "right to rehabilitation" to be recognised, Interfax agency said.
