All red carpets lead to this one: The Oscars. And as the 89th Academy Awards unfolded at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, we got a glimpse at what must be the pinnacle in fashion (and stylist) ingenuity. Weeks of fitness preparation and behind-the-scenes fittings (and designer intrigue) culminated in a dizzying array of of voluminous gowns, sheer, fitted dresses and a healthy dose of Armani Privé! There were a surprising number of head pieces (Janelle Monae), ear cuffs (Isabelle Huppert) and something blue! Stars wore blue ribbons on their ensembles to show support for the American Civil Liberties Union, in light of President Trump’s controversial travel ban. Politics, and protest, is here to stay for a while.
