When you’re a Kardashian, you can pretty much do whatever you want — including fly a hairdresser across the country to touch up your roots. In an Instagram story posted on Saturday morning, Khloé Kardashian revealed that celebrity hairstylist, Tracey Cunningham, traveled from Los Angeles to Cleveland in order to style her A-list client’s hair.
“So, Tracey Cunningham flew all the way from L.A. because look at these roots. Horrible,” Kardashian says in the Instagram video. “She’s here in Cleveland, like a real sweetie.”
If you’re wondering why Kardashian is in Cleveland in the first place, it all has to do with her newborn daughter, True Thompson. Kardashian moved to Cleveland before True was born, since it’s the hometown of her daughter’s dad, Tristan Thompson, who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite reports that Thompson cheated on Kardashian during her pregnancy, she’s staying in Cleveland for now.
Even though Cleveland is her new home, it looks like Kardashian hasn’t found local professionals to stand in for people like Cunningham. And it can be difficult to trust a new stylist with your hair — but Kardashian’s decision to fly Cunningham to her new city couldn’t have been cheap.
A quick search on Google Flights shows that a round trip flight from Los Angeles to Cleveland, departing Saturday and returning Monday, could run anywhere from $605 to $1,897. Of course, that’s assuming the flights are just now being purchased, as Kardashian could have very well booked Cunningham’s travels ahead of time. Still, it can’t have been cheap to fly on a holiday weekend; Cunningham’s trip cost at least a few hundred dollars, and likely a lot more.
And if Cunningham flew first class, rather than coach, those figures would be even higher. According to Google Flights, round-trip, first-class tickets from L.A. to Cleveland and back start at $1,711 for trips Saturday to Monday. Again, Cunningham’s tickets were likely booked earlier — but they still could have easily set Kardashian back more than $1,000.
For Kardashian, though, having Cunningham’s masterful hair skills is worth the price. Cunningham is a Redken ambassador at the Meche Salon in L.A., and she’s worked with plenty of big-name clients. Other stars who’s hair she’s colored and styled include
#emmastone #redhair on a #blonde first do an allover @redken #shadeseq #gloss 8gg+8c+9aa+orangekicker for 10minutes rinse do #lowlights #shadeseqcream 7gc+9gc zone1&2 9gc zone 3 #highlights #blondedimensions 10vol 1/8 of #olaplex face frame and in the part after you rinse the low lights and highlights I #root the #blonde with #shades 9nb/20+9g/20/9aa/20+8c/10<70cc of shades eq Percision application rinse do allover gloss 8gg/20+8c/20+orangekicker/10 for 3 mins (The first time I did this we reapplied and left it on for five more minutes for total of eight because it was not red enough) Yes it is a lot of steps but fast is not usually the best way @louisvuitton #hairstylist @mararoszak #makeup @rachelgoodwinmakeup @chaviv_hair #clipins
. So Kardashian is in very good company. Of course, Cunningham’s appointments don’t run cheap, either. According to Meche Salon’s website, a base color can cost between $150 and $175, while highlights and balayage treatments can cost anywhere from $275 to $450. So Kardashian’s Memorial Day roots touch-up was definitely an expensive endeavor.
My assistant @katmariesamson and I Have been slowly taking @jessicabiel lighter, but last night she wanted to go really blonde! We only had an hour to do her! I felt like I was on a game show, and I had to beat the clock. It took me 1 hour and 15, while Kat was diffusing the ends and I was pulling highlights...didn’t want to keep @hairbyadir , @karenkawahara & @tombachik waiting for too long! We used @redken USA #flashlift + 30 vol with a 1/4 oz of #olaplex, and then I #balayaged it with 40 vol and Olaplex at the same time. After, we rooted it with #shadeseq 7N + 7NB, and around her hairline we used 9N + 9NB for 5 mins. #beforeandafter #brunettetoblonde @olaplex #saloncentric @traceycunninghamsalon
Kardashian looked so happy in her Instagram story, though. And, of course, she’s allowed to spend her money however she wants. If Cunningham’s dye treatments make the new mama feel great, why not fly her out to Cleveland?
