Russian President Vladimir Putin is about to get a starring role as a matador in a Finnish animated series, according to Finnish national public broadcaster Yle.

The show will center around a bullfighter who loses his job—a concept inspired by cartoonists from Spain’s Catalonia region. Catalonia banned bullfighting five years ago.

The cartoon is partly funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation. So far there are few details on how Putin will feature in the story, but the cartoon’s director Katariina Lillqvist and artist Juho Juntunen have unveiled some details about his wardrobe.

“Now we are making the doll depicting Putin,” Lillqvist said. “He is dressed in a bullfighter costume.”

According to Lillqvist some of the Catalan artists working on the project often discussed Russian property owners in their region but did not say if this is how Putin would factor into the story.

“It is a very interesting and humorous project,” she added. “It is very different from the kind of things I’ve done before.”Try Newsweek: Subscription offers
