As fashion month nears its end, it’s clear that the industry has become ripe with new talent and is full of exciting new collections — but there’s one new designer that doesn’t call one of the “big four” cities home. Her name is Zeyenp Arçay and she is the founder of her namesake line that’s making a big splash within the fashion community 6,000 miles away — all the way from Istanbul.
Stylish celebs like Kendall Jenner, Allison Williams, Jessica Biel and Chrissy Teigen have all been spotted wearing the new Turkish brand in recent months. But we predict this is just the beginning of what will surely be a long line of celebrity obsessions with the brand. A brand that is not even sold in the U.S. officially—yet.
Arçay has procured partnerships with some of the best factories and tanneries in Italy, France, and Turkey, with whom she has created luxurious collections that use only the finest materials— leather, silk, and fur. Leather is at the forefront of Arçay’s collections, in particular she has incorporated paper-thin leather to create incredibly lightweight, strong-yet-feminine style dresses, skirts, and jumpsuits in colors like baby blue, red, and black.
Arçay’s choice to use paper-thin leather is due to it’s extreme malleability to easily create new silhouettes as well as the lovely featherlight feeling when the material is worn. The collection also includes trench coats, tailored jacket and skirt sets as well as stylish workwear separates like structured blouses and wide-leg trousers. Note, the collection won’t be easy on your purse-strings as it does have a luxury price-point, ranging between $1,000-$4,000 with the furs ranging between $7,000-$11,000.
Although Zeynep Arçay is new to the U.S. retail circuit with Forward by Elyse Walker being the first e-commerce retailer to sell the collection in the U.S. (come July 15), the brand received its first big break from Beymen, the leading Turkish fashion retailer, who stocked Arçay’s first collection alongside top luxury brands like Saint Laurent, The Row, and Valentino.
You would be surprised to know that Arçay’s background is not in fashion, but rather in the business and tech industry for the past 20 years before launching her eponymous brand in 2013. What prompted the sudden switch in careers? A blessing in disguise.
Unfortunately, Arçay’s mother had fallen greatly ill and instilled inside her a will to go after her true passion in life: to be a fashion designer. This was the call-to-action push she needed to make her dreams a reality.
We can’t wait to see what Arçay has in store for the future. For now, click ahead to see Jenner, Biel, Williams and Teigen in the brand that will surely become the breakout-celeb favorite designer this year.
