German tennis player Angelique Kerber has taken her first Wimbledon title after ousting none other than 23-time Grand Slam holder Serena Williams of the USA in the final.
The 2016 Australian Open champion got off to a brilliant start, immediately breaking her well-decorated US opponent to take a 2-0 lead at the beginning of the match.
Williams fought back hard to cut the deficit, making the score 3-2 to her advantage. However, her efforts were not enough to reverse the course of the game as the tenacious Kerber regained her composure to seal a 6-3 win in the opening set.
