Earthquake strikes off Turkey's coast near Greek islands

A strong earthquake has struck off the coast of western Turkey with tremors felt in Istanbul and on some Greek islands, reports say.

The epicentre of the 6.3 magnitude quake was 84 km (52 miles) northwest of the Turkish city of Izmir, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

Some damage was reported in the town of Plomari, on the Greek island of Lesbos.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
