Oscars 2017: Striking Gold

"DRESS to impress" is usually a glib dress code instructive, but it was invested with new meaning at the Oscars 2017 as numerous actresses chose gold for their respective red carpet spins. Optimistically apeing a statuette, it turns out, is no bad thing: Emma Stone, magnificent in tiered, fringed, burnished custom Givenchy haute couture, was later able to accessorize with a Best Actress statuette. Special mention must also go to Dakota Johnson, who came over all Old Hollywood-Grecian in pronto-off-the-catwalk Gucci, finished with a 1958 baguette-cut diamond necklace from Cartier's Paris archive; Nicole Kidman, sparkling in Armani Privé; Charlize Theron, a former Oscar-winner, resplendent in tulle and metallic Dior; and Jessica Biel, whose sequin- and crystal-embellished KaufmanFranco gown featured mock tears offset by a feathered Tiffany & Co necklace.
