ARE you ready for the statement pocket? No longer a slave to function, the repository for keys, chewing gum or lipsticks, or even a facilitator of the nonchalant pose, pockets are suddenly back in the spotlight at London Fashion Week. Giant round pouches hid within the folds of ladylike dresses, imbuing the models with a certain elegant slouch, while utility-style squares delineated powdery coats at Simone Rocha. JW Anderson, ever innovative, proposed the necklace-cum-pocket, cheekily placing them over breasts on jerseys and satins. Louise Trotter at Joseph gave them an abstract jollity. And at Christopher Kane, they sprouted euphorically from evening dresses, decorated with three-dimensional sequinned corsages of flowers. The question now is: which pocket will you pick?
