THE most obvious takeaway so far from London? Velvet isn't going anywhere. Roland Mouret's happy homecoming was punctuated with elegant black velvet cut on the bias (the same elegance popped up at Christopher Kane, cut with an asymmetric neckline) but it's the printed stuff we've got our eye on: fuchsia and blood orange at Peter Pilotto; burnished yellow and faded violet at the Ottoman-inspired Erdem; and glistening with appliqué jellyfish at Mary Katrantzou. Then there was the velvet at Emilia Wickstead, cleverly manipulated to form what she called "velvet lace". The difference now? Velvet is light and lithe, spun to cloak the body flatteringly rather than swamping delicate frames. Wear it with flats to compound the sophisticated effect.Trending: Complementary Colours
