She was catapulted to fame as Stormzy's relatively unknown girlfriend but since being thrust into the limelight, Maya Jama has become one of our ultimate girl crushes.
Whether she's making us LOL on Instagram, lending her good looks to a Maybelline campaign or presenting on the small screen, Maya is constantly killing it.
Not one to rest on her laurels, Maya has added another string to her bow and turned fashion designer.
The badass British model and presenter has channelled her passion for fashion into a range for Pretty Little Thing and we can confirm you'll want to buy every last thing on offer.
Maya walked GLAMOUR UK through her new collection, talked us through her favourite pieces, her go-to beauty hacks and, obviously, the conversation lead onto Love Island.
“I’ve been wanting to do something clothing wise for years and years and have had the vision but I never felt like it was the right time; until now,” Maya told us.
Maya took inspiration from the Chanel catwalks and the Clueless cast’s wardrobes (what a combo) when it came to channeling her passion for fashion into a collection.
“I am obsessed with 90s vibes and two-pieces but finding them was mission impossible so I wanted to make my own. Every woman feels empowered in a suit so when you can make it sexy at the same time, it’s a double win,” she said of the hero pieces.
Whilst her wardrobe is carefully curated, Maya takes a much more pared back approach when it comes to beauty – and her secret to glowing skin is certainly a surprising one.
“I swear by washing my face with Dove soap,” she said of her ride-or-die beauty hack. “I got super invested in loads of facial cleansers, which are amazing but I ran out one day and just started using soap and my skin has been amazing since so maybe less is more.”
She also swears by Kiehl’s Cranberry and Tumeric face mask, which she uses before every red carpet event to brighten her skin and clear her complexion in record time.
Her makeup regime follows a similarly low-key vibe and her four hero products are a trusty concealer, a Maybelline mascara, a brown-hued lip liner and the Fenty highlighter. “I usually do two under-eye concealers; one two hide the darkness and another to brighten up.”
Maya makes wellness a priority and has downloaded the Calm app so she can master the art of meditation. “I also love to swim when I get the chance as it’s the only place where there’s no phone, no distractions,” she adds.
And, along with the rest of the nation, Maya loves nothing more than winding down after a busy day with a spot of Love Island.
“I am obsessed with Love Island. I just love lying on the sofa because I am so busy all the time, when I get home, I turn my phone off, lie down and eat as many crisps as I can find and watch shameless TV.
“I haven’t warmed to anyone particularly. I like Eyal – he’s well deep and emotional, bless him. I just feel really sorry for Alex, they need to bring on a girl who he’d be the dream man for.”
With accolades including eBay ambassador, Maybelline beauty icon and fashion designer on her CV, you’d be mistaken for thinking Maya wants to chill out on the career front.
“The end goal is to have an Alan Carr style Chatty Man or a Celebrity Juice show.
“I might want to go completely left and open a cocktail bar. I’ve always said that if all else fails, then I’ll become a bartender and travel the world but I don’t think that’s going to happen so maybe I’ll have my own bar and learn how to make some cocktails.”
Cheers to that.
