The Oscars may be behind us, but last night Canadians got a chance to celebrate the best of film and television at the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards. Host Howie Mandell kept some of the country’s best talent entertained at the Sony Centre for the 5th annual awards ceremony.
So who were the big winners of the night? In the film department, It’s Only the End of the World picked up multiple awards including the best motion picture and best director (Xavier Dolan). In the television department, Orphan Black won the best drama series, while Letterkenny got recognition for best comedy series.
But it was our former cover star Tatiana Maslany who was the night’s golden girl. The Emmy-award-winning actor not only picked up the night’s coveted Best Actress Award for her role in The Other Half but also Best Actress in a Drama Series for Orphan Black.
Canadian gem Christopher Plummer may have joked that he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award out of pity due to his “old age,” but during his acceptance speech, the Sound of Music star assured everyone that “the curtain has not yet fallen [but] is simply stuck.”
