Tory Burch wants women to “own their power, their drive, and their dreams.”
In celebration of International Women’s Day, the 50-year-old designer has kicked off a new global initiative, launched by the Tory Burch Foundation, urging women to #EmbraceAmbition. The campaign puts the spotlight on gender equality and female ambition with a star-studded PSA, which includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore, Camilla Belle, Rashida Jones, Laila Ali, Kate Bosworth, Lauren Santo Domingo, Diane Kruger, Reese Witherspoon and more. Vogue’s Anna Wintour also appears in the one-and-a-half minute video. Even a few leading men (Jon Hamm, Chris Pine) pop up to support this important cause, too. “The people in the PSA are people I admire, and that have been vocal or lived their lives in a way that shows that this is meaningful and this is not a partisan issue,” the designer tells PeopleStyle. “This is a human rights issue, women should have equal rights. It should be a given.” In the video, celebs wear campaign T-shirts featuring a word that defines their drive. In Reese Witherspoon’s case, it’s “Powerful.”
The special edition Embrace Ambition collection T-shirts (emblazoned with words like “Mother” and “Boss”) and bracelets are available here, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Tory Burch Foundation, which strives to empower female entrepreneurs.
Throughout the video, celebs share their inspiring messages about women and ambition. “Ambition is sexy,” says Kerry Washington. “Own your dreams,” says Diane Kruger. When asked what is your ambition, Anna Wintour says, “to help more women run for office,” and Tory Burch says, “to help women build empires.” Burch knows a thing or two about the later, building her own eponymous label into a $1-billion dollar global lifestyle brand. Vogue magazine recently featured Burch in its March issue, which celebrates women in fashion. Besides running an empire, this power player is also
: 19-year-old twins Henry and Nick and 16-year-old Sawyer (psst, they appear in the campaign, too).
